As the Ithrotir Competition has always done, the Three Pillars Competition will offer diverse challenges to encourage well-rounded competitors, and reward entries which display authenticity as well as skill. People of all SCA time periods and cultures are invited to participate.
In addition to the traditional Arts & Sciences and Martial events, we also have a brand new category of Service contests! That's right--the hard work you put in to improve the site and help Egil's happen can now earn you points towards fabulous handmade prizes!
The name and structure of the competition echoes the three main paths of action which our Society recognizes and rewards: Arts & Sciences, Martial endeavor, and Service. As our Society is built upon service, art, and chivalry, so shall be this competition. The entrant who shows the strongest diverse efforts in all three categories will earn the distinction Champion of the Three Pillars and take home an exquisite handmade box of loot.

Three Pillars Competition Rules
Contests are divided into three categories: Arts & Sciences, Martial, and Service. Participants may enter as many contests as they wish. To compete for overall winner (Champion of the Three Pillars), entrants must participate in at least six contests, including a minimum of one contest in each of the three categories. Entrants will receive one point for each contest entered and one point for each category entered. Winning first place in a contest gains 5 points, second place gains 3 points, and third place gains 2 points. Judges may decline to award prizes in any contest if, in their judgment, the level of competition warrants. The Champion prize will be awarded to the highest point total. In the event of a tie in overall point totals, the entrant with the highest number of higher placings will prevail. Ties in individual competitions will be permitted. The decisions of the judges are final.
Even if you do not enter a service contest, we request that all entrants in the Three Pillars donate at least two hours of service to the event.
All Three Pillars entrants must register Saturday morning of Egil’s in order to compete. Each participant will receive a “Passport” in the form of a small paper booklet on which to record their entries and scoring. The participant is responsible for keeping track of their Passport and turning it in for final scoring. Passports must be turned in to the competition coordinators no later than noon on Sunday of Egil’s to allow time for tabulation before prize court.
There will not be separate youth or children's categories this year. Younger participants are welcome to participate in the Arts & Sciences and Service Pillars alongside the adults. If their entries are anything like the last few years, the adults will have stiff competition, but age will be factored into the judging.
