Archery:  Stay tuned for more info about the Great Hunt, a team novelty shoot.  All participants must follow the Safety Rules and Range Courtesy guidelines posted at the archery range.  The SCA Target Archery Rules and An Tir rules regarding equipment will be followed.  All gear must be inspected and authorized by the target archery Marshall-in-Charge.

Holmgang Tournament:  A heavy fighting contest following standard An Tir and SCA rules.  All fighters must be authorized to fight in An Tir.  The holmgang originated as a Norse duel; in period, two combatants would swim to a small island or ice floe to do battle.  At Egil’s, multiple small fields take the place of islands.  The form will be single weapon and shield.  Matches will be single combat (no seconds).  Fighters form a single line; the frontmost fighter takes the first available open field.  Fights will be to the standard SCA ‘death’.  Any combatant who steps out of the field is defeated.  Defeated fighter reports victor’s name to the Lists; victor holds the field.  Any combatant may refuse an open field, but must return to the back of the line.  Fighting continues until the end of the designated time (breaks will be given); fighter with the most total victories wins the tournament.  The Baron, Baroness, and any royalty present shall determine whether a final round is necessary and who shall fight in it.
All holmgang entrants must make a contribution to the prize bag for the Novice Tournament—anything you feel will help a new fighter:  pieces of armor, duct tape, rattan, books, other raw materials, etc.*

Double Elimination Tournament:  A heavy fighting contest following standard An Tir and SCA rules.  All fighters must be authorized to fight in An Tir.  Any SCA-legal weapon style may be used.  Fights will be to the standard SCA ‘death’.
All tourney entrants must make a contribution to the prize bag for the Novice Tournament—anything you feel will help a new fighter:  pieces of armor, duct tape, rattan, books, other raw materials, etc.*

*If there are not sufficient entrants for a Novice Tourney, the donations will go to the Volunteers’ Raffle.

Spear Throwing:  To encourage participation, there will be men’s and women’s divisions in this contest.  Spears will be provided.  Each entrant will have three throws in each round.  Spears must stick in the target in order to count.  The target will start 10 yards away and increase by 5 yards in each successive round.  Anyone failing to hit the target in a given round is out.  All those who hit the target may advance to the next round.  If all participants in a round fail to hit the target, the first, second, and third places may be determined by the number of hits from the previous round.  If this is not readily determinable, the judge may change the distance to the target to a distance intermediate between those of the last two rounds, or may have the participants re-cast the previous round.

Wrestling:  To encourage participation, there will be men’s and women’s divisions in this contest.  Entrants should wear a sturdy belt for the starting stance (a loaner will be available).  The first one to touch the ground with any body part but feet is out.  No striking or gouging, no deliberate grabbing of hair or private parts.  The rounds are double-elimination.
